DaVinci Angel Final

Leonardo Portrait Final Image

It’s time to stop working on the DaVinci Angel painting. This has been a lot of fun to do and I feel has brought my skills back and maybe a bit more. It has only been a beginning for my study of Leonardo. I intend to do at least one more based on his original work. And then I want to do an original painting of mine in this same style. A portrait of someone would be the perfect subject, if I can find a willing subject.

I have been reading about Leonardo and watching a series of DVD lectures from The Great Courses about Leonardo. This has been very inspirational for me, especially the way that he elevated the art of painting above anything that had been done before. Leonardo had a sense of atmosphere and perspectival space that nobody before him was able to do and few since have been able to reproduce. Especially most of the artists attempting to copy Leonardo I feel have failed to capture what makes his paintings so magnificent. I suppose I will fall short as well, but I at least hope to learn and to push my own work to a higher level.

At the end of the work on any painting, there is a satisfaction of achieving your goal, but there is also a regret. For the artist it is the journey, not the destination, that we love. Once complete I must ask myself what is next? I have some projects in planning. I just have to choose which one to do first. Until then I hope everyone enjoys this image.
