Leonardo Portrait Stage 1

I have actually been working on the painting for a while, just have been bad about posting to this blog - mainly because I am still working on my websites. So this was the painting as of June 11. I started to sketch in the underpainting. This is acrylic paints, but I’m still working along roughly similar methods as Leonardo did with oils. So the first step is to sketch in the basic drawing using burnt umber and white. Much will change from here. The process after this stage is almost like modeling clay, pushing and pulling values until the image is what you want. I will post more shortly. My next photo of this is only about a week old.
